The ten-week course begins on Wednesday, October 7, from 7pm to 8pm, and is open to people aged 18 and over.

The course, which costs £25, is designed to develop running abilities and promote noticeable improvement week on week.

Anyone interested in getting involved is invited to attend a welcome evening on Wednesday, September 30 from 7pm to 8pm, at Monkton Stadium.

Councillor Alan Kerr, deputy leader with responsibility for culture and leisure at South Tyneside Council, said: “Following another memorable year for the Great North Run, I am sure there are many more people who have been inspired to get involved in future events.

“Training is key to ensuring runners perform well and reduce the risk of injuries.
