TOWN campaigners are urging people to get along to a showcase event which caters for everyone in the business world.

A free three-hour event - offering advice and support to existing businesses as well as help to anyone thinking about starting their own business - will be held at Cleveland College of Art and Design in Church Square.

It runs from 1pm to 4pm and has been jointly organised by the Hartlepool branch of the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) and Hartlepool Council, with support from the Hartlepool Business Forum, Hartlepool College of Further Education and Cleveland College of Art & Design.

Councillor Robbie Payne, chair of the Council’s Regeneration Services Committee, said: “In the current economic climate it’s really important to provide encouragement, support and guidance to the business sector and anyone thinking of starting a business.”

Pamela Hargreaves, chair of the Hartlepool FSB, said: “There is a great network of organisations in Hartlepool who all work well together to support businesses and help people into employment.

“All of these organisations will be present on the day to give advice and support to existing businesses and to those who are considering setting up their own business.

“We’ll also be organising some speed networking sessions during the afternoon which will provide an excellent opportunity for people to meet each other and develop new contacts.”

Highlights include a chance for people to pitch their business ideas. People can also pitch why they would make a great employee.

There’s a prize of £150 for the best pitch and £75 for the runner-up in both sections.
