A FLORIST has grown his business by expanding into a second shop.

Simon Reed, 32, has been running Floral Expressions in Murray Street in Hartlepool for the last six years and it has been a huge success.

But now, he’s hoping for even more good times after opening a second shop in Oxford Road under the name of Floral Express.

And with the business now under way, the feedback is already very encouraging.

Simon, who is originally from Blackhall and now lives in Hartlepool, explained: “There used to be a florist before in the Oxford Road shop and it had a good name. People are telling me that it is lovely to have a florist back there again.”

Simon has a five-strong workforce and said: “The people who work for me know what they are doing and I can leave them to got on with things at the Murray Street shop.

“I wanted something for me to get my teeth into and I heard that the Oxford Road unit was empty, and that it had been a florists before. It’s a nice little unit.”

Simon had previously worked as a travel agent in Hartlepool and later for the same firm in the Newcastle area.

But when he was made redundant, he decided to move into the florist trade and had the perfect motivating factor - his mum Susan Hutchinson has run a shop in the Blackhall area for 20 years.

Now, he is enjoying having two shops and there may be more to follow.

Simon added: “I want to expand. I want another shop but it is whether that is in Hartlepool or whether it is one of the villages.”

The Murray Street shop is already Interflora branded and that will apply to the Murray Street unit from later this week.

Both florists shops have a busy trade, covering everything from weddings to funerals, birthdays to business functions.
