EMOTIONAL tributes have been paid to a “true gentleman” from the region’s business community who died at the weekend.
Toby Tilly, who was a senior partner at Endeavour Partnership, died on Saturday at the age of 64.
The dad-of-two was born and lived in Greatham village, on the outskirts of Hartlepool, until he married.
Mr Tilly, who was educated at Repton and Southampton University, spent all of his working life in the North-East, and joined Endeavour Partnership from Eversheds in 2000.
Colleagues say he was one of the leading commercial lawyers in the region and they have praised him for his outstanding technical, legal and commercial knowledge.
Mr Tilly advised on many of the region’s high-profile transactions gaining an outstanding reputation for working in the field of corporate law for which he was recommended in the Legal 500 Directory.
Simon Wake, managing partner at Endeavour, said: “Toby was an inspiration to us all.
“He was a true gentleman and his wisdom, good humour and common sense will be sadly missed by everyone in the firm.”
Toby is survived by his wife Jane, daughters Charlotte and Sophia and his grandchildren Oliver and Toby.
His funeral will be held at the Church of St Mary Magdelene, in Hart Village, on Friday at 2pm.
