A MADCAP musician who is planning to busk his way from Hartlepool to Orkney has organised a fundraising send-off gig,
Jeff Butterfield, 60, will leave town for the Orkney Blues Weekend on Monday, September 17 and says he will hitch-hike the 451 miles if he has to.
But ahead of his gruelling challenge, which will involve him busking in Newcastle, Edinburgh and Inverness, the dad-of-two will perform alongside other musicians at the Moorings, on Hartlepool Marina.
The fundraising event, which will be held on Tuesday, September 11 and the busking trek have both been organised in memory of Jeff’s mum, Muriel, who was known as Lou and died in June last year after a four year battle with Alzheimer’s disease, aged 82.
All of the money raised will be handed over to Hartlepool Day Centre, in Gretton Court, in the town, a facility which helps Alzheimer’s sufferers.
Jeff, who lives in Seaton Carew with his partner, Rosemary Sinden, 52, a care worker, said: “I thought it would be good to have a send off concert before I start the challenge.
“It will hopefully just help to raise even more money.”
Jeff will be joined on stage by musicians Daniel Drinkwater, Chloe Gibson and Tinny Bennett on the night.
Doors open at 7pm and entry is £2.
Jeff, who has spent the majority of his life gigging, is appealing for support ahead of his busking trek to Orkney.
