SANTA donned a new colour when he rewarded young eco heroes for their environmental efforts.
Stagecoach North East’s Green Santa popped in to see Hartlepool Beaver Scouts who won £250 in the bus firm’s eco-friendly competition.
The event is usually only open to schools, but it was made available to community groups this year.
Youngsters had to write to Green Santa to ask for environmentally-friendly presents, and the Beaver Scouts, along with Hartlepool’s Sacred Heart Primary School, were among the winners, both receiving a £250 voucher.
Green Santa handed over the cheque, along with other goodies, when he visited the winners.
Beaver Scouts leader Jackie Robinson said: “We’re delighted to have won Stagecoach North East’s Green Santa competition and the £250 voucher, which will go towards much needed energy-saving lighting.
“We’re always looking for ways to be more environmentally-friendly, and teach the children the importance of looking after their planet, and Green Santa really helped reinforce that message.”
Janine Fowley, operations manager at Stagecoach North East’s Hartlepool depot, said: “This year was better than ever, with so many fantastic entries from across Hartlepool, including solar-powered clocks, compost bins, energy-saving light bulbs and gardening equipment.
“We decided to open up the competition to community groups this year as they also carry out vital environmental initiatives and we wanted to support them and their green approach.”
