MEMBERS of a social group are delighted after securing a spot in a popular carnival parade – but are now appealing for materials for their float.
Butterflies Social Group has proved to be a revelation since launching at the end of 2010 and now boasts an impressive 94 members.
Those who are part of the group enjoy regular gatherings and trips away, as well as helping to organise various charity events.
But now Butterflies has something else to look forward to after spreading its wings and getting involved with the Headland Carnival.
The carnival, which will be held in July this year, will involve various activities, games and competitions for children and adults alike as well as the popular parade.
The Butterflies has already got a vehicle sorted for the parade but is now appealing to any individuals or companies who may have any materials which it could use to help build their float, which is going to be designed as a caterpillar turning into a butterfly.
Barbara Scott, 61, who set up the Butterflies, said: “Taking part in the carnival parade is something I have always wanted to do so I decided to get involved with the committee.
“It’s absolutely fantastic that we are going to be part of the parade, all of the members are over the moon.
“I have got the vehicle sorted and a few members of the group are very artistic so they are going to design our float.
“We could just do with some help with any sort of materials.”
Barbara, a mum-of-two who works as an accountant and lives in Dowson Road, in the town, is still surprised at how the group has taken off since it was set up.
Butterflies has so far raised £1,700 for charity and hold regular events, the latest of which is taking place tonight at Springs on Hartlepool Marina.
The 60s night will get underway at 7.30pm.
Admission is £5 and people can pay on the door.
