A SUCCESSFUL social group has organised a charity night to support a local hospice.
The Butterfies were set up at the end of last year by Barbara Scott, who wanted to spice up the social life of over 40s in Hartlepool.
Despite being just eight months old, the group now has more than 50 members who meet regularly and go on of trips.
As part of their gatherings, the group has organised a charity night this weekend to support the Hartlepool & District Hospice.
More than 50 tickets have already been sold for the event at the Grand Hotel, in Hartlepool, on Saturday.
But Barbara is urging people to snap up one of the tickets, enjoy the evening and help to support “a fantastic charity and their tremendous work”. We actually thought we would have sold a few more tickets by now, it promises to be a fantastic night,” said Barbara, who lives in Dowson Road, Hartlepool.
“There will be a disco and a four-course meal and if we sell 100 tickets we have a Michael Buble tribute act coming to play which would be excellent.”
The hospice is a charity close to Barbara’s heart.
Her mum, Jean Bailey was cared for by staff there before she died in August 2009, aged 84, after suffering with an asbestos-linked illness.
Barbara, a mum of two who works as an accountant, has also lost a close friend who was cared for at the Wells Avenue-based facility.
She said: “The work the hospice does is incredible and we are all so pleased to be able to help them.
“As soon as we decided we were going to organise a charity event we knew we wanted to support the hospice.
“It is close to the heart of a lot of our members.”
Sandra Britten, director of information governance, said: “The Butterflies have taken the hospice cause to their hearts and this is a wonderful way to raise money for local charities. I hope everyone has a fantastic night.”
Tickets for Saturday’s event, which starts at 7.30pm, are £25.
