POLICE have thanked kind-hearted taxi drivers for their help in tracing a missing pensioner.
A search was launched after the 73-year-old man went missing from his home in the Maxwell Road area of Hartlepool yesterday afternoon.
Police chiefs used officers on the ground and CCTV while a pair of taxi drivers from Twenty3 Taxis, in Mainsforth Terrace, also offered their services.
Information from the drivers helped locate the man in the Oxford Road area at around 8pm on Wednesday.
The pensioner, who had been missing for about five hours, was returned home safely.
Inspector Mick Brown, of Hartlepool Police, said: “An important part of our work is locating missing or vulnerable people.
“It really stretches our resources to the limit so it was heartening to receive the support of local businesses like Twenty3 Taxis.”
