REPLACEMENT bus services were laid on after train services were disrupted when a train ran over a loose cable.
Rail services between Hartlepool and Sunderland were delayed when the problem was reported around 2pm yesterday.
Some trains were diverted via Darlington following the incident while engineers worked to fix the problem, in addition to the buses provided.
The fault was reported in the Easington area and was services returned to normal shortly after 3.30pm.
A Network Rail spokeswoman said it was not known how the cable had been dislodged.
