STAFF from a cafe which is being moved are looking to help a local charity by donating their old tables and chairs.
Eugene’s, based at the back of the former Westgate store, in Middleton Grange, Hartlepool, had been left out on a limb since the closure.
After the shop closed the cafe remained at the rear of the premises but will shortly be moving to a new location at the opposite end of the centre.
Manager Martin Downes said: “Our customers had to walk all the way through a large, empty department store, so we had to move.
“We have some very loyal customers who have supported us, but quite a few are elderly, and walking is a struggle. It wasn’t the best.”
As part of the move, Martin is now looking for a new home for some of the furniture which will not be making the transfer to the new premises.
The cafe has two different types of seating to donate – some are fixed seating, with chairs attached to the tables, and others are sets of tables and loose chairs.
Martin also has eight tables which need new homes.
He added: “They have all been really well looked after and are in excellent condition.
“I could have put them on eBay but I’d much rather that a local club gets to use them. It would be really nice to give them to a good cause.”
Martin, who has run the cafe for the last nine years, is looking for a community group, charity or youth club to benefit from the tables, although they will have to arrange their own transport for the items.
Anyone interested in the furniture is asked to contact Martin on (01429) 276677.
