A HOSPITAL campaigner has welcomed the move to bring services back to Hartlepool.
Keith Fisher, chairman of the Save Our Hospital group, said he is “over the moon” and is looking forward to hearing more details about which services.
He said he would be “really impressed” if the Trust decided to bring back A&E services to the University Hospital of Hartlepool.
Mr Fisher said: “Any return of services to Hartlepool is to be welcomed.
“Not knowing the details I appreciate the principal and it is in line with the Lord Darzi report.
“I am over the moon and would appreciate any return of services.
“This town has had enough downgrading and I applaud any move in the opposite direction.
“It is certainly a turn, a u-turn would be the return of the hospital to its star rating.”
Mr Fisher said he has never supported the new hospital at Wynyard and wanted to see more services brought back to Hartlepool.
He added: “What this means for the new hospital I don’t care; that is something that we can’t afford and do not want.
“That needs to be made clear to central government.”
