TEENAGER Alexandra Craig has been hailed as a “true role model” by the head teacher who saw her achieve perfect results.
The 19-year-old from Hartlepool is now a first year student at St Catherine’s College in Cambridge University where she is studying English.
But she left an undoubted impression at English Martyrs School and Sixth Form College where she achieved a perfect four A*s in her A levels – in English Literature, History, Sociology and General Studies – last summer.
The Claremont Drive resident also won the John Bell Cup at the school’s annual awards ceremony and still found time to become an international fencer. She held the British under-18 title as well as a silver medal at the Commonwealth Under 20 championships.
But that’s not all. She plays piano to grade 8 standard and saxophone to grade 7 and reached the Youth National Final as a member of the English Martyrs Big Band.
Head teacher Michael Lee, who has nominated her for a Pride of Hartlepool Award, in the Student of the Year category said: “She chaired the Sixth Form Debating Society. She was a peer mentor for several students studying GCSE English and also managed to find time to act as a Sports Ambassador and to assume the duties of Deputy Head Student.”
Yet modest Alex told the Hartlepool Mail: “It is a great honour but there are people who are deserving of awards, perhaps more than me.
“There are people who help hospices and do all sorts of really good deeds for charity, and for their own families.”
