“YOU’RE something extra special.”

That’s the message from Mark Rycraft to this year’s Pride of Hartlepool entrants as the Middleton Grange Shopping Centre’s indoor market became the latest sponsor of the competition.

The indoor market has become the backer of the community champion category in this year’s search for Hartlepool’s unsung heroes.

Mr Rycraft, the manager of the shopping centre, said: “We are delighted to be a part of the Pride of Hartlepool awards.

“I have been to many events where local people have been awarded for the good things they have done in their community.

“There are lots of people out there and everyone deserves an award for everything good they do in the community. But people are ultimately awarded at these events for something extra special.”

Mr Rycraft added: “It is great to see nominations coming in for the various awards. The award we are sponsoring is for the community champion. It is an important category because of the individuals who do wonderful things in their neighbourhoods.

“To see these special people awarded for their exceptional effort is lovely.”

What a line-up for a competition which has been a huge success already and looks set to continue in the same vein.

We have had more than 100 people put in nominations for their favourite causes but we still need more.

Ten categories up for grabs are Sporting Achievement; Community Group; Community Champion; Student of the Year; Fundraiser of the Year; Child of Courage; Local Hero; Green Champion; Emergency Services and Young Performer of the Year.

We are calling on our readers to nominate that special person or people who have done something that you believe deserves recognition.

It could be anyone from 999 heroes to community champions – help us celebrate those who have done their town proud.

You have until early March to put forward your favourites and we want to make this a record year for entry numbers – but the only way we can do that is with your help.

So come on. Fill in the nomination form in the Hartlepool Mail today, or visit www.hartlepool.mail.co.uk and complete the online entry form.

That way, you can ensure that the people who make Hartlepool proud are the ones who get the praise they deserve.
