LIMITED edition T-shirts have gone on sale to raise money for three cancer charities.

Hartlepool firm of solicitors Smith and Graham has teamed up with the town’s ceremonial mayor, Labour councillor Stephen Akers-Belcher, to produce the unique T-shirts which feature the famous Hartlepool monkey legend in the design along with the words ‘Pool together to beat cancer’.

The T-shirts cost £5 and all of the proceeds will be divided between MacMillan Cancer Support, Pansies Breast Cancer Support Group and The Denise Taylor Cancer Trust.

Coun Akers-Belcher, said: “Thanks to the generosity of Smith and Graham Solicitors, all of the proceeds from the sale of the T-shirts will go to my three nominated cancer charities.

“Before we designed the T-shirt I asked lots of local people what they would like to see on it and the Hartlepool monkey was a clear winner.

“We’ve also incorporated a strong message to reflect the ongoing scientific efforts to beat cancer.

“I hope the T-shirts prove to be popular and that people wear them with pride to spread the message that together we can beat cancer.”

Steven Horsley, from Smith and Graham Solicitors, said: “The company is always striving to support the local community and we are delighted to play our part in helping to raise money for three extremely worthy causes.”

The T-shirt was designed free of charge by Hartlepool man Stuart Hodgson, who was also praised by Coun Akers-Belcher.

Coun Akers-Belcher said: “We gave Stuart a brief and he very quickly came up with the eye-catching design we were looking for.”

The T-shirts are available from Hartlepool’s Maritime Experience, Hartlepool Art Gallery, Church Square and the Civic Centre.
