A FORMER rocket engineer used his “expertise” to take his own life in a car explosion because he could not face living any more, an inquest heard.

Highly intelligent David Bagley killed himself with a home-made bomb in his Nissan Micra on a deserted industrial site in Hartlepool last week.

The blast in Old Cemetery Road prompted bomb disposal experts to carry out a search of his flat on Hartlepool Marina which led to dozens of residents and businesses having to be evacuated.

At Mr Bagley’s inquest yesterday it emerged that he had spent much of his career in the aerospace industry and had worked on rockets that had gone into space.
