A MAN and his wife were treated for shock after their car ploughed into a wall and ended up balancing in the air.
The couple’s Vauxhall Meriva collided with the wall next to the Top Shop convenience store in Wingate Road, Trimdon Station.
A spokesman for Peterlee Fire Station, which sent a crew to make the vehicle safe, said: “It happened right outside the front door of the shop – if anyone had been coming out of the shop it could have been disastrous.
“We used our equipment to stabilise the car.”
The fire crew spent 40 minutes at the scene.
Meanwhile, firefighters from the station were called to Oak Terrace in Horden at 3pm, to a report of an outbuilding on fire, but it was a false alarm.
But it emerged it was only smoke in the area and the call was put down as a false alarm.
