Staff and residents at a care home are celebrating after being shortlisted in national awards competition for the title of Home of the Year.
Field View care home, in Blackhall Colliery, which caters for the elderly and people living with dementia, is one of six finalists in the 2016 Maria Mallaband and Countrywide care awards.
Staff, residents, families, healthcare professionals and visitors all nominated it for the award which seeks to recognise the home that has provided exceptional service to deliver a homely and welcoming place while demonstrating great team work and a commitment to the service as a whole.
Manager Michelle Howarth said: “We are absolutely thrilled to have been named as a finalist for Home of the Year. When I found out I couldn’t wait to tell the staff and residents.
"We are very proud of our home and our success really has been a whole-home effort, from the input and support of residents and their families to the commitment and passion of our whole staff team, so we are delighted to have been nominated for an award that reflects this.”
It is a hat-trick of finalists for Field View as home administrator Helen Carter is shortlisted for the Beyond the Call of Duty award for a member of staff who has gone above and beyond in their dedication to the home and demonstrated good teamwork with colleagues.
And deputy manager Karen Collins is a finalist for Trainer of the Year, an award recognising an in-house trainer who delivers an informative and engaging training session and ensures the staff complete courses.
The staff from Field View, along with the other award finalists, have been invited to a gala evening on Thursday, June 23, at The Queens Hotel in Leeds to enjoy a drinks reception and dinner, followed by the awards presentation and entertainment.
It will be the second annual awards held by national care home operator Maria Mallaband Care Group and Countrywide Care Homes which were created to acknowledge the efforts of staff and the impact they have on the lives of residents and their families.
There are 14 categories in total this year, plus two additional special awards for the Judge’s Special Award and Phil Burgan Special Appreciation Award.
