FROM Barbados to Cyprus – Carol Hammond has witnessed dance trends all around the world.
The Hartlepool dance school owner has travelled to many countries as an examiner for the International Dance Teachers Association.
And for the first time, she has shared some of the highlights of her 14-year adventure.
“I feel very privileged to have had the opportunity to visit different countries to examine and lecture,” said Carol, whose first such experience was in Barbados.
She got to examine both children and adults, amateurs and professionals for ballroom, Latin American, classical sequence, Freestyle, Argentine Tango, belly dance and salsa.
But there was also a chance to enjoy the local sights with her husband, David.
“I was taken to Oistins Friday Night Fish Fry. This was brilliant,” said Carol.
“Various local stalls were positioned along the beach and people were dancing in the open air.
“I could choose from marlin, barracuda, dolphin, Mahi Mahi but finally decided on the barracuda.”
Another of her visits was to Seoul, in South Korea, which is the homeland of her son-in-law Jang SeHyoung Don, who is a dancer.
Carol said: “During one of my visits I was taken to the beautiful Nam Mountain to see the marvellous view of Soeul, and then lunch beside the President’s house.”
Carol’s role has also taken her to Greece where she examined for the first time, and said: “I was very lucky to find the time to visit the famous Acropolis.”
Cyprus was also on Carol’s itinerary. She examined in Nicosia, Larnaca and Limassol.
Carol added: “I was amazed at the standard of belly dance which has inspired me to teach it to my juniors.”
