AN AMAZING selection of pictures from female amateur photographers in Hartlepool is on display.
The ladies from Hartlepool Camera Club have erected a fantastic exhibition of their snaps at Hartlepool’s Central Library, in York Road.
Shots of pets, flowers, still life, portraits and scenery are there for all to see for free until next Friday.
And the women responsible for the collection say they are very proud of their efforts despite some initially thinking that they weren’t experienced or talented enough.
Chairman of the club, Willa Laidler, said: “The exhibition went up on the May 12 and has to come down on May 23.
“The content of the exhibition is the work of lady members from absolute beginners to some of us who have been in the camera club for about 20 odd years.
“Some of these images are the first ones that some of the ladies have ever even had an image enlarged and framed so as you can imagine, they are really thrilled to have them up in the exhibition.
“There is no theme to it as such just any work that they wanted us to display, for example still life, landscapes, portraits. pets and abstract images.
“Some of the ladies were a bit nervous and were saying ‘we can’t put anything in because our stuff isn’t good enough’ but I just encouraged them and reassured them that it isn’t a competition.
“It worked and they put their photographs forward and we’re delighted with the results.”
On Tuesday evening, the club held a reception-type gathering for members and their partners with a buffet to celebrate the launch of the display.
Willa added “We are getting good feedback from the public and they point out their favourites to us. If it encourages any more ladies to join us then that would be brilliant. We have over 60 members and about 15 of them are women so we are a little outnumbered! We’d love to have some more women – men are still welcome as well obviously!
“People should come along and have a look at the exhibition whether they’re interested in learning photography or not. We’ve got a fabulous selection up there, it looks great.”
