A TOWN centre car park is set to close while essential improvements are carried out.
The basement car park at Middleton Grange Shopping Centre, in Hartlepool, will close to vehicles for two mornings next week to allow for upgrades to the emergency lighting and fire sprinkler system.
Work began on the car park before Christmas. But it was delayed so it didn't disrupt the festive shopping season.
Phil Hepburn, Hartlepool Borough Council's parking services manager, said: "The upgrade will be finished by the end of this month and it will not involve any further full closures of the car park although a few of the parking bays may be out of action from time to time.
"We apologise for any inconvenience which these brief closures may cause to drivers."
Middleton Grange manager Mark Rycraft said: "The safety of our customers is paramount and these upgrades are important in ensuring that Middleton Grange remains a safe place in which to park and shop.
"We thank our customers for their understanding while the work is carried out."
The shopping centre will be open for business as usual, with access still available through the car park for pedestrians.
The car park will be closed on the mornings of Monday, January 17, and Tuesday, January 18, reopening at noon.
