Young people in Hartlepool are being invited to set sail for a summer of fun.
The Feel Good in Hartlepool project is running two sailing initiatives for youngsters aged between 8 and 16 during the summer holidays.
Two-hour taster sessions, costing £5 per person, will be on offer on July 27 and 28 at Tees and Hartlepool Yacht Club in Hartlepool Marina.
These will be followed by a youth sailing course from August 3-7. This will be a week of half-days (9am-12pm or 1-4pm) which will enable young people to learn the basics of sailing and work towards a Royal Yachting Association (RYA) certificate.
That course will also take place at Tees and Hartlepool Yacht Club and costs £30 per person.
The Feel Good in Hartlepool project is a three-year initiative run by Hartlepool Council’s Sport and Physical Activity Team.
It is receiving almost £200,000 of Community Sports Activation Funding from Sport England and aims to get more local people active by promoting participation in sailing, triathlon, multi-sports skills and dance.
Micky Early, sailing activator with the project, said: “These are the latest in a series of recent sailing initiatives that have all proved to be hugely popular. I would urge young people to book their places as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
“We have a great working relationship with Tees and Hartlepool Yacht Club and I’d like to
thank them once again for their co-operation and support in staging these two initiatives.”
