TICKETS are selling fast for a Hartlepool charity’s fourth annual ball – with all cash raised helping to ease the financial burden for cancer sufferers.

Inspirational Denise Taylor set up the Denise Taylor Cancer Trust while she battled against the disease which sadly took her life in May, 2010 when she was aged 59.

Her daughter, Helen Hart, 33, and a dedicated team continued the good work and have since supported dozens of people fighting cancer in Hartlepool.

The trust’s biggest fundraiser of the year, the annual ball, is extremely popular and this year’s event is proving is no different.

The ball will be held at the Borough Hall on Saturday, May 25, and tickets, priced at £25, are shifting fast.

Helen, who works in administration at West Park Primary School, in Hartlepool, said: “The ball is undoubtedly the biggest event of the year for us and the money raised helps us to support people throughout the year.

“It’s scary how many people have cancer.

“When my mum was diagnosed it was a case of ‘why us?’

“But when I see how many applications we get now it makes me realise just how many people are in the same situation.”

The Trust works to help people in the situation by providing cash to ease the financial burden that comes with cancer.

It supports sufferers by helping with childcare costs, travel, parking fees or any consequence of a loss of wages if the person is self-employed.

“We’ve had our ups and downs since the Trust started but it’s what my mam wanted,” added Helen, who lives on the Headland with husband, Stephen, 32, her son, Harry, six, and step-son, Michael, 11.

“We all still have the drive to do it and we are happy to be supporting people like my mam wanted us to.”

People who are buying a ticket for the ball can also treat themselves to a new dress – and support the Trust in the process.

Trading Treasure, in Hartlepool Enterprise Centre, in Brougham Terrace, is selling evening dresses and prom dresses and some of the proceeds will be donated to the charity.

The Trust has also recently set up a new Facebook page which people can visit by searching for the Denise Taylor Cancer Trust on the site.
