WHAT a suite ending!
Delighted charity bosses say they are indundated with furniture and it’s all down to Hartlepool Mail readers.
We reported how the Barnardo’s shop at Carlton Corner in Hartlepool was desperate for furniture, especially three piece suites.
The plea for people to come forward had a “tremendous response,” said shop manager Catherine Braithwaite.
At one point, the shop was “packed to the rafters” with new supplies, but they are selling well.
Catherine added: “It wasn’t just three-pieces which we had coming in. We got loads of them, but we also got dinner sets, tea sets, numerous little tables, bedroom furniture, everything.”
She said she was “thrilled” with the response and added: “We have had a marvellous week for donations and takings”.
But the plea for donations has not ended. Catherine added: “We still need three piece suites because they are selling as soon as they come in the door.”
Before our appeal, charity bosses feared the credit crunch meant people were hanging on to their existing furniture instead of buying replacements
This meant the shop in the York Road area was suffering for stock.
The shop is big enough to stock six three-piece suites at one time.
Charity bosses are interested in hearing from anyone clearing a relative’s house, or getting rid of furniture in advance of new items they might be ordering in time for Christmas.
The shop can collect, at short notice and free of charge.
As well as three piece suites, it offers tables, chairs and bedroom furniture.
Anyone who can donate furniture should contact (01429) 235975.
