A CHARITY is working to improve sports facilities in Greatham.
Greatham Sports Field Association is raising funds towards providing changing facilities for the village amenity.
It would allow local football teams to play in the village instead of playing their games in Hartlepool.
The first stage of the plan is to provide a water supply to the field in Station Road.
Now a fundraising night of live entertainment has been organised by Greatham Sports Field Association towards their plans.
It will take place at Greatham Community Centre, on Saturday, May 31.
Kevin Cosgrave, of the Greatham Sports Field Association, said: “The sports field is an asset to the village.
“The first stage of the plans is to get a water supply.
“We are hoping we can get some temporary buildings which can be converted into basic changing rooms.
“It will enable Hartlepool Sunday League football team Greatham Bull and Dog to play within the village, which would be a real boost to the community.
“Most of the players come from Greatham, and hopefully it will foster more interest in the club.”
The association hopes to secure grant funding towards the new changing facilities, just as it did to provide a tennis court several years ago.
Everyone is invited to support the fundraising night which will see entertainment from band Small Wonder who play covers from the likes of The Beatles and Rolling Stones.
Kevin said the night has already broken even thanks to sponsorship from Northgate Public Services.
Chief executive Joe Bradley said: “We are aware of the asset that the popular sports field is to Greatham and the wider Hartlepool area.
“We are delighted to help the sports field committee with their fundraising as part of our commitment to the area.”
Guests can take their own food and drink.
Tickets, which cost £6 each are available from 07795261652.
