TWO pals are stepping out to raise funds for a children’s hospice that cared for a young friend.

Terry McCormack, 20, who works as a funeral service operative at Mason and Gerald Martin in Park Road, Hartlepool and his pal Lauren Pickering, 21, will walk nine miles from the funeral home to Speckman’s Funeral Service, in Wingate, to raise funds for the Butterwick Children’s Hospice, which cared for Terry’s childhood friend, Ashley Carter, who died from a brain tumour aged just 14, in 2006.

This will be the first phase of the walk, on June 29, as they had planned to walk to Durham, but Lauren was involved in a go-karting accident and they will now do it in two stages.

Terry, from West View, said: “Lauren knows of the good work the hospice does, as her friend’s daughter goes there and the hospice also made Ashley feel comfortable, they don’t get enough credit.”

The pair also collected 40 chocolate eggs at Easter for the hospice. To sponsor the pair, call (01429) 862021.
