FAMILIES are being encouraged to join in with the fun at a party as the Mail’s Playbus appeals wheels into Hart Village.

Hilary Thompson, independent councillor for Elwick, has teamed up with residents to organise an afternoon of jam-packed activities at Hart Village Hall.

The kind-hearted organisers got to work on planning the party as a way of saying thanks to Families First for their continued visits to the four villages, Dalton Piercy, Elwick, Greatham and Hart.

Mrs Thompson said: “The Playbus is a fantastic outlet for the children and they all seem to really look forward to their weekly visit.

“We wanted to acknowledge this.

“The children in the villages don’t necessarily have the same access as what is available in the town centre and the bus really does play an important role.”

Mrs Thompson is calling on residents to help make the party a roaring success.

It is taking place at Hart Village Hall this Sunday, March 6, from 3pm-5pm.

As well as raffles, a party tea and arts and craft activities, an entertainer will be performing and there will also be a fancy dress competition.

Mrs Thompson added: “It promises to be a great afternoon.

“It is raising money for a fantastic cause”

Dawn Bearby, 36, who lives in Dalton Piercy, has helped with the organisation of the event.

Dawn, a childminder who is a mum of two and married to John, 43, said: “I think the party is a great way to say thanks.

“Dalton Piercy is a lovely place to live but there is absolutely nothing at all for children.

“It’s great that we get the visit from the Playbus, the children all really look forward to it.”

Paul Thompson, manager of Hartlepool Families First said: “It is great to see communities supporting the Buy A Bus Appeal.

“The bus is extremely popular in rural areas and it is fantastic that people in Elwick are backing our bid to buy a reliable replacement.

“People in Hartlepool have been extremely generous since the Mail launched its appeal and hopefully we should be able to find a suitable vehicle very soon.

“One last push could make all the difference to what type of bus we will be able to buy.”

Tickets for the party, priced at £3 are available from Elwick Post Office and Greatham Post Office.

They can also be bought by contacting Dawn, in Dalton Piercy on (01429) 233789 or Janet Ord, in Hart Village on (01429) 266225.

Organisers are also urging people to donate raffle prizes and to help out with the party tea.

l The Mail’s Playbus appeal has been given a further boost thanks to the St Aidan’s and St Columbas Ladies Fellowship.

Members donated £20 to the appeal after Mail reporter Richard Mennear gave them a talk about his experiences on board the Wylde Swan ship as it sailed from Norway to Hartlepool in The Tall Ships Races last August.

The event saw almost one million people and dozens of ships head to Hartlepool.

The group meets regularly at the St Columbas Centre, in Marlowe Road, on the Rift House estate, and they are always looking for guest speakers.
