A FISH and chip shop is looking forward to another successful 20 years after celebrating two decades in business.

Mariners in Middleton Grange Shopping Centre, in Hartlepool, will offer hungry customers half price on fish and chips all next week as part of the celebrations.

The popular chippy has been in the same spot upstairs in the shopping centre since it opened back in 1993.

Owner Kevin Turton said: “It has been a great 20 years and I hope we will get another 20.

“I had done a number of other things but opening this shop is by far the best move I have made.

“The people of Hartlepool have been very loyal and supportive.

“The half price offer is just a thank you to all our customers.

“I shall carry on. I am 55 now and I can still see myself going until I am 75, no problem.” At half price, fish and chips will cost almost what they were when the shop first opened.

The restaurant and take away employs eight members of staff, some of which have bene there for years.

Kevin, a dad of three, added: “We are a good team. A couple of staff have been with us pretty much from the start.

“Julie, my manageress and others have been here for at least 10 years.”
