HARTLEPOOL Mail head of features Chris Cordner is 50 days into his mega challenge.
He is running and walking from John o’ Groats to Land’s End between now and the moment the Olympic flame is lit in July - but doing it all as a challenge closer to home on treadmills and local running routes.
The 51-year-old is doing it as part of the Mail’s Race For Fitness project, which aims to get at least 2,012 people in Hartlepool and east Durham improving their health in Olympic year.
Chris said: “By now, I should have done 215 miles, but I am about 10 behind. A mixture of fatigue and a battle against head colds is taking its toll.
“But I have never felt more confident that I can do this. After all, the warmer weather is on its way and I will be stepping up my training anyway for races such as the Hartlepool Marina Five Mile Road Race and the Tees Pride 5k.
“There’s a long way to go but I am sure I can do it.”
