RECEPTION pupils took part in a church service with a difference - the Christening of a doll.
More than 60 youngsters from Eldon Grove Academy, in the town, made the short trip to St George’s Church, in Park Road, where they enjoyed their latest lesson in church ceremonies.
Reverend Val Towler carried out a Christening service on a doll with the school’s youngsters playing the roles of family members on the day.
Rev Towler said: “We do this every year and the children always really enjoy it.
“I talk the pupils through every stage and they are always extremely interested, they’re a delight.
“Hopefully it’s something fun for them, I’m sure it is, and it’s a chance to show them how the church welcomes youngsters into the world.”
The reception pupils at the school have been learning about the various religious ceremonies and services held in church.
Rev Towler added: “We have two children who were playing the roles of parents, two more were playing the role of god parents and others played the role of other family members.”
