A CHURCH’S summer fete proved to be a great success by raising around £900.

St John the Baptist Church, in Greatham, held its annual summer fete on Saturday and organisers are delighted with how the event went.

Sylvia Turnbull, the church warden at St John the Baptist, said: “We are really pleased, the day went very well and was really well attended.

“We don’t know all the final figures yet but we think that we have raised about £900, which is fantastic.”

The summer fete was just one of a number of fundraising events held by the church throughout the year, including a Christmas market.

All the proceeds from Saturday’s event will be added to the church funds, which go towards the utilities and general upkeep of the church.

The summer fete was held in and around Greatham Community Centre, with a number of stalls both inside and outside the building, including bric-a-brac and cake stalls as well as two raffle draws.

Sylvia, 74, added: “We were really pleased that the weather was fine on the day and that we were able to hold it mostly outside in the sunshine.

“It would have been a little cramped if we had to do it all inside the community centre.”
