After a wintry start to the day in the North East, no more snowfall is expected to take place this weekend across most of the region.
However, a cold and wet Friday is in store, with the Met Office predicting a cloudy day with heavy rain or showers for most.
A maximum temperature for the North East today is set at 7°C, with snow possible again later in the day over the hills, having been seen across lower ground earlier this morning.
The temperature is expected to rise for the rest of the Bank Holiday weekend, and the Met Office forecast that it will turn drier overnight.
Sunny spells are then forecast to follow on Saturday, with a chance of showers, mainly over western hills in the afternoon. It should feel warmer, with a maximum temperature of 11°C.
On Sunday, that pattern is expected to continue, although there is a chance of showers, particularly near midday.
