THE culinary skills of a keen Hartlepool cook were on show for millions to see last night as she was announced as the joint winner of a national television show.
Dot Page, 52, who describes herself as a “right character”, cooked up a treat on the Channel 4 hit TV show Come Dine With Me.
Despite her outrageous behaviour, which saw her fall asleep drunk and show a lack of table manners, she did enough to earn 18 points to take a share of the £1,000 prize.
Mum-of-two Dot had to cook a three-course-meal for the three other contestants at her home in Seaton Carew.
After each of the participants had their opportunity in the kitchen, their meals were given a vote out of 10.
Dot, a support worker for people with learning difficulties, chose a ‘Poolie Parmo’ as her main dish.
And after millions of viewers saw her announced as the joint winner last night, Dot revealed her delight at being crowned champion.
“It was absolutely brilliant, very tiring but brilliant and so funny and winning just capped it all off,” said the mum of Claire Brown, 34, and Leigh Hall, 25.
“There were lots of arguments, a lot of laughs, a lot of alcohol and lot of food, it was such a good experience.”
Dot has always been a big fan of Come Dine With Me so jumped at the opportunity when she saw an advert for filming in the local area.
“I’m a right character and that’s probably why they picked me,” she laughed.
“One of the nights was a black tie night but I didn’t really know what that meant so I wore a black suit.”
As well as filming in her home, Dot was also interviewed in the Black Olive pub, on Hartlepool Marina.
Producers also shot Dot doing karaoke with Claire and Leigh in Skyy, in Avenue Road.
“I think it showed Hartlepool in a good light,” added Dot.
