People are invited to help give their town an extra spruce-up – to help mark The Queen’s 90th birthday.

A national initiative called ‘Clean For The Queen’ has been launched by Keep Britain Tidy and Country Life magazine with the aim of rallying an army of volunteers across the country to help clean up their local area in time for the milestone.

There will be a clean-up on Saturday at Rift House Recreation Ground from 10.30am to 1pm and a free barbecue.

On the same day, volunteers are also needed for a litter-pick in the Family Wood from 10am to 11.30am, meet at the entrance to the wood off Elwick Road, near the notice board.

On Sunday from 10am to 11am, young people from the Thornton Street area Sunday school will be doing their bit with a litter-pick. Meet at the Linear Park on Thornton Street at 10am.
