That’s how many people have entered the town’s Race for Life event so far this year, but organisers would love to hear from even more.

Would-be runners can enter all this week, including on the day of the race which is this Sunday.

Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life, in partnership with Tesco for the past 15 years, is an inspiring women-only series of 5k and 10k events which raises millions of pounds every year.

Last year, 1,230 women in Hartlepool pulled on their trainers and helped raise over £65,000 for life-saving research.

So far this year, 240 people have signed up for the 10k event and 850 for the 5k run, said area event manager Katie Palmer. Officials are hoping to match last year’s fundraising total.

Katie added: “Our message to people is to come forward and sign up.”

Cancer survival rates have doubled since the 1970s and Cancer Research UK’s work has been at the heart of that progress.

Thanks to advances in research, more people in the North East are surviving cancer than ever before.

But to help even more people survive, Cancer Research UK needs continued support.

Women and girls of all ages and abilities can take part by walking, jogging or running to raise money to help beat over 200 types of cancer affecting men, women and children.
