HUSBAND and wife Ken and Sheila Hunter flew 12,000 miles to celebrate their Ruby Wedding anniversary in their home town.
The couple emigrated to Brisbane in Australia 30 years ago for a better life.
But they and their family returned to Hartlepool to mark their 40th wedding anniversary on Sunday.
Sheila, 59, and Ken, 62, held the party at the Staincliffe Hotel at Seaton Carew where they had their wedding reception exactly four decades earlier.
They were joined by 85 family and friends.
Sheila, who is assistant secretary to one of Queensland’s biggest unions, said: “It was really good. We wanted to create some memories for our children who came over with us and there have been lots of babies born in the family since our last visit so we wanted to meet them.”
They were joined on the trip by sons Lee, 37, Jamie, 34, and his wife Skye, and their three grandsons.
Sheila and Ken, a carpenter, were married at Stranton Church and emigrated in 1983.
