JANINE O’Rourke is all heart when it comes to raising money for her favourite charity.
The heart nurse and gym owner pal Sharon Bain are planning to trek to the foot of Mount Everest as part of a mammoth charity challenge for the British Heart Foundation.
Janine, 42, has organised a whole host of fundraising events and activities all leading up to the Everest trek in November.
She will be joined on the arduous 18-day expedition in the Himalayas, by friend Sharon, 49, from Billingham, who is manager of Fitness Connexion gym in Hartlepool.
Janine, a coronary heart disease specialist nurse, of the Fens, Hartlepool, said: Going to Everest’s base camp has always been on my bucket list and I thought it’s now or never.
“I thought it would be a good challenge for Sharon and asked her to join me.
“I’m nervously looking forward to it. It is going to be a massive challenge.
“I go to the gym but have never done anything like this.”
Janine has organised five other events as part of her challenge to raise money for the British Heart Foundation.
Janine, and other supporters, will take part in a sponsored walk in Heartbeat country, North Yorkshire, on April 26, when they will visit eight pubs over eight miles, collecting cash along the way.
On Saturday, May 10, people are invited to a Race Night at the Hillcarter Hotel, Church Street, Hartlepool. Tickets are £5 available from Fitness Connexion or the hotel.
Then in June, Janine will swim Lake Windermere in the Great North Swim.
On July 2, she will host a quiz night at Hartlepool’s Tall Ships pub at 7.30pm.
Janine added: “I put my patients through their paces in their recovery so I thought I should put my money where my mouth is.
