A PUB chain is preparing to open the doors of a new £1.22m venue which will create 50 new jobs.
JD Wetherspoon’s The Half Moon Inn will open on the site of a book shop in Billingham’s West Precinct on Tuesday.
The pub, which will serve food until 11pm and specialise in real ales, will be managed by Hannah Lownsbrough.
It was, named after a former Billingham pub dating back to the 1820s, with lounges reflecting that era, will have wheelchair access and have a specially-adapted toilet for people with disabilities.
The new-look premises will feature a bar, fireplace and a front terrace cafe-style area, with a patio area.
Photos, local history, commissioned artwork by local artists and information boards relating to events, history and characters of the area will be displayed in the pub.
References include Lord Alexander Fleck and Sir John Brunner and local building history.
