ONE of the most premature sets of twins born in the country have celebrated their second birthday.
Little fighters Archie and Harley Garthwaite, who were born 17 weeks early, continue to amaze parents Hayley Kennedy and joiner Billy Garthwaite, both 21.
And the gorgeous little pair have had a very happy second birthday – with the duo celebrating their birthday on different days having made their big arrival either side of midnight.
Former hairdresser Hayley, who once thought she would never see the day that they would turn two-years-old, said: “I can’t believe they’ve turned two. I just feel so lucky that they’re here and are coming on.”
She added: “They’re doing great. They’re just gorgeous.”
The couple have had some bad news, though, that Archie may have cerebral palsy and struggle to walk, but they hope weekly physio treatment will help the youngster.
His twin brother Harley is “walking brilliantly”, said Hayley, of Irvine Road, Hartlepool.
The twins defied the odds when they were born in the 23rd week of their mum’s pregnancy with Archie weighing just 1lb 4oz and Harley 1lb 6oz – making them one of the most premature sets of twins in the whole of the country to survive.
