BUDDING future sports stars have had a fantastic summer playing lawn tennis - and leaders from a town club hope to encourage more youngsters to give it a go.
Hartlepool Lawn Tennis Club, based on the corner of Grange Road and Granville Avenue, currently have up to 50 junior members on its books.
But club secretary Tony Synott says there is always room for more Andy Murray or Maria Sharapova to grace the courts.
He said: “As well as exercise and health benefits, the club develops the children socially and with their confidence as well.
“They come in as little children not playing very well, and then if they stick at it, they develop, not only in terms of tennis, but also in the way they behave.
“Their personalities start coming out.”
Tony added: “We’re always on the look out for new members and with it coming up to the school holidays it’s something good for the children to do.
“They come to a safe environment with adults running the sessions, along with a professional coach as well.
“There is also a club house there where the children can play table tennis if it’s raining.
“There is all sorts they can do, and i think it fills in their time really well.”
Tony said there are fun sessions as well as competitions and summer camps, which run right through the school holidays.
Youngsters can start from the age of seven-years-old and upwards.
There are also sessions for teenagers and adults.
