A WORRIED resident has warned drivers to be cautious at a junction which she says is causing confusion.
Christine Blakey, 45, says she has had a number of near misses at the junction in the Bishop Cuthbert Estate, in Hartlepool.
Christine, who acts as a Hartlepool Borough Council resident representative for the area, said drivers coming down Silverbirch Road are pulling straight onto Merlin Way believing they have right of way.
But she says it is a junction and has urged drivers to approach with caution.
Christine, who lives nearby in the estate with her partner David Ninn, 53, a co-owner of Lotus Garden at Hartlepool Marina, said: “For people who are new to the area or visiting, there are no signs which make it clear that it is a junction and drivers think they have right of way. I have had a near miss on a few occasions and the last time it happened I said to David I want to let people know what is happening so they are extra careful.
“There was a fence up that has been taken down, which makes it a little easier for drivers to see, but nowhere does it say it is a junction.”
Christine, a mum of Sean, 25, added: “I just want drivers to realise that it is a junction and drivers have to stop as they approach Merlin Way.
“Hopefully signs or road markings will go up soon which makes it clear for drivers.”
Don Anderson, construction director for Bellway Homes which built the estate in partnership with Persimmon Homes, said: “We will make sure a sign goes up as soon as possible to let people know who has right of way.
“The sign will be up within 10 days.”
