Coundown to kick off in star-studded football match at Hartlepool United

Tickets have gone on sale for a star-studded football match set to raise thousands of pounds for two worthwhile causes.

Hartlepool charity Miles for Men is staging the one-off game against, a celebrity team for the Manchester-based charity Once Upon a Smile.

They will take on a team of former Hartlepool United players and Miles for Men members at Victoria Park on Saturday, September 16.

Celebrities for Once Upon a Smile are expected to include The X Factor star Jake Quickenden, This is England actor Thomas Turgose, Adam Thomas from Emmerdale and Waterloo Road, Ralf Little from The Royle Family and ex-pro footballers Frank Sinclair and Paul Dickov. All are subject to availability.

Rob Collier, a patron of Miles for Men, said: “The response from Hartlepool has been great. Everyone is absolutely buzzing about it.

“It is a family day out that allows the wives and kids and grandparents to come.

“They are not just coming to watch a football match, they will be supporting two fantastic charities, and is a good chance to see the celebrities they watch every day on TV.”

The Miles for Men team will feature a number of former Pools stars including Kevin Henderson, Rob McKinnon, Tony Skedd, Ian McGuckin, Brian Honour and Stuart Irvine.

Miles for Men founder Michael Day will also take to the pitch alongside Richie Griffiths and Rob Collier from the charity.

They will be managed by former Pools boss Chris Turner.

Rob added: “We have got some cracking names. It is going to be a competitive game.

“Once Upon a Smile don’t like losing but we are certainly going to put a match on.”

Tickets for the game are priced £8 for adults, £5 for kids or £20 for a family ticket for two adults and two children.

Although they fans can pay on the day they are urged to buy them beforehand.

Rob said: “We have had quite a lot of people coming in to Advanced House. We hope Hartlepool and the surrounding area really get behind us.

“We are really looking for that home support.”

Executive boxes for up to 12 people including ore-match meal and celebrity meet and greet are £1,000.
