A MAN has told of his miraculous escape when an earthquake hit as he met his Chinese bride for the first time.
Mike Wright flew out to China to meet his bride-to-be, Erin, who he met on a Chinese dating website.
But the earth moved in a rather unexpected way when the 40-storey hotel the couple were staying in was hit by an earthquake which measured 7.9 on the Richter scale.
The couple had been communicating online for 18 months and after months of planning and six months of being engaged, Mike flew to Chengdu in China to tie the knot.
But Mike arrived in Chengdu on May 12, 2008, the same day the earthquake wrecked havoc and caused tragedy, with 65,000 lives lost in China’s northwest region.
Mike, who is celebrating the news that the Home Office is allowing Erin to live indefinitely in the UK, said: “I’m not an emotional person, but I cried a lot in China.
“I never thought I would see my family again.”
