CRAFT designer Tracie Bestford is hoping for an “amazing” win after entering a competition to win an office.

The 35-year-old from Hartlepool has entered her business called Betty’s buttons & bobbins into the Keys To Success contest.

The competition is run by the Hartlepool Mail in conjunction with UK Steel Enterprise, and the eventual winner will win an office unit which is free for a year within Hub Two of the Innovation Centre on the Queens Meadow Business Park in Hartlepool.

Tracie said: “I can’t imagine winning this. Some of the entries so far have been unbelievable. Winning this prize would be amazing.”

She studied for her degree in textiles at Bretton Hall college in Leeds University, and then went onto work in the fashion industry in London.

She moved back to Hartlepool around two years ago - with her partner Chris Carney, 34, a resource manager for the BBC - to be closer to family and friends after having her little girl Vivienne Carney.

She said: “I started my own little business from home in the summer last year and have been slowly building it up over the last few months. I mainly make textile art and also nappy cakes which are very popular!

“I work from my kitchen and would absolutely love to have my own premises to work from so I could have people work with me in the right environment and expand my little business”

The aim of the competition is to give a business that has real potential to grow a boost.

UK Steel Enterprise, the Tata Steel subsidiary that supports businesses in steel areas with finance and premises, has joined up with the Hartlepool Mail.

One lucky entrant will get to win a 200 sq ft office, spacious enough to accommodate three people. It is already furnished with office desks, chairs and accessories and the lucky winner will pay no rent, rates, lighting or heating bills for 12 months.

But for those of you who are still planning to enter, time is running out. The competition will close to entries on March 13. We’re still hoping to hear from even more top-class entrepreneurs.
