A MAN walked into a sports shop and stole over £170 worth of clothes.

David Conniff went into JD Sports, in Middleton Grange Shopping Centre, Hartlepool, and went around the store picking up clothes from the rails.

Hartlepool Magistrates’ Court heard that the 41-year-old then left the store without paying and the alarms were activated.

Prosecuting, Graeme Richardson said: “He admitted he took the items.”

Mitigating, John Relton said his client stole the goods due to having “financial difficulties” over recent weeks.

He added: “Fortunately the goods were recovered and he’s pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity.”

Chairman of the magistrates’ bench John Jenkins sentenced Conniff, of Uppingham Street, Hartlepool, to a six-month exclusion order from JD Sports.
