POLICE are hunting two men who committed what has been described as a “heinous” distraction burglary at a 90-year-old woman’s home.
The men conned their way inside the victim’s home on the pretence of doing some repair work to her washing machine.
But when she was not looking they rifled through her belongings before making off.
The crime is said to have been committed at around 3pm on Monday in the Rift House area of Hartlepool.
Inspector Mick Brown, of Hartlepool Police, said: “The lady appears to have asked someone to fix her washing machine and have gone through her drawers.
“Police are requesting information from anyone who can assist with this crime.
“It is a particularly heinous crime because of the age and vulnerability of the individual concerned.
“If someone knows something about who the person responsible is, my message is to give them up.”
It is not known what was taken from the woman’s home.
Anyone with information should contact Hartlepool Police on (01642) 326326 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
