A TEENAGER was knocked unconscious during an apparently unprovoked attack in the early hours of the morning.
The 18-year-old Hartlepool man was walking home with a friend after a night out in the town centre when he was assaulted and knocked to the ground, where police say he lay unconscious for a few minutes.
The attack took place at around 3am on Monday, in Park Square, off Hart Lane.
Officers say it is not clear whether there was one or two attackers but the suspect is believed to have come from the North Cemetery area, off Jesmond Road.
The victim was taken to the University Hospital of Hartlepool before being transferred to the University Hospital of North Tees, in Stockton. His condition is described as comfortable.
