A YOUNG boy was attacked with sticks by yobs after he refused to let them have his scooter.
Police are investigating the “nasty and totally unprovoked” assault, which left the 10-year-old boy with severe bruising and swelling to his arms.
The incident happened between around 4.50pm on Thursday, October 3, in Skerne Close, Peterlee.
The youngster was playing on his scooter when he was approached by two youths believed to be a few years older than him.
Police say one of them asked if he could have a go on the boy’s scooter and when the younger boy refused, one of the youths picked up a stick and struck him across the arm.
Officers say as the victim tried to head home the youth hit him again on his other arm.
The victim suffered a large area of severe bruising and swelling to the top of his left arm and slight bruising to his other arm.
He did not require medical treatment.
PC Ged Cooke said: “The victim returned home to his parents in a very distressed state after what was a nasty and totally unprovoked assault.
“The victim did not know the youths involved.”
The attackers are described as aged about 13 or 14, about 5ft 6in to 5ft 7in tall.
One had dark hair, the other light hair. One was wearing a dark blue tracksuit with white stripes down the arms, and the other was wearing again a dark tracksuit but with white stripes down the front.
