A CHILD rapist who sexually abused three youngsters has been caged for 14 years.

Depraved Iain Brown, 48, carried out a string of disgusting attacks on his young victims.

He was jailed for a total of 14 years and two months at Teesside Crown Court after he pleaded guilty to 14 shocking offences which happened when he lived in Hartlepool several years ago.

Police have praised the bravery of Brown’s victims in coming forward and helping to put him behind bars.

Detectives say they will pursue offenders no matter how long ago the crimes were committed and hope the lengthy sentence in this case will encourage victims to come forward.

Brown had previously claimed he was innocent of his crimes and was due to face a four-day trial.

But he dramatically changed his plea to guilty on the second day.

Brown, of no fixed abode, admitted two counts of rape, nine charges of gross indecency with a child and three counts of indecent assault.

Much of the details of the offences cannot be reported to protect the identity of the victims.

Judge Howard Crowson also ordered that his name be added to the Sex Offenders’ Register where it will remain indefinitely.

Detective Constable Pete Littlewood, of Cleveland Police, said: “This case demonstrates that police will take seriously and rigorously investigate reported crimes of this nature, regardless of the length of time that has passed since it was reported.

“I must pay tribute to the courage of the victims for coming forward and helping to protect the public from this person.”
