EMERGENCY services were called to a Hartlepool college earlier today.

Students and staff were evacuated from Cleveland College of Art and Design in Church Square, Hartlepool, after the automatic fire alarms were activated.

Two fire engines from Stranton Fire Station attended the scene shortly after 9.15am today.

A spokeswoman for Cleveland fire Brigade confirmed that it was a false alarm and after checks were carried out the college was re-opened.

Meanwhile, officers from Hartlepool Police were called to the college after thieves had swiped metal from a storage area.

It was reported to police at 7.10am today.

A spokeswoman for Cleveland Police said: “Police were called after reports of a theft of metal from a storage yard.”
